first lambs and shop update

Bigger.

Here’s a proud mum with her lambs, born on Monday at Överjärva Gård. This little onewas born yesterday.

Hand thrown vase and log bowl.

manos is updated with one off little bowls combined with beautiful makramé cloths, Stem vases and some sale items. For instance the vase above, I’m so pleased with that vase - the shape is well balanced and the pattern works the shape really well. And then I forgot to wipe the glaze off properly from the bottom so it stuck a little to the kiln shelf… No one would notice though if they didn’t turn it upside down.

operating place

Soon in manos webshop!

Next week I’ll be adding “all white” ceramics to manos. There will also be a selection of vases very modestly priced as they have small “esthetique faults".

Kuksa, lovely tactile drinking vessels. Bigger.

I bought a small wooden drinking vessel at the Jokkmokk winter market. It is so smooth and so well crafted. Scroll down through the pictures in the Jokkmokk set and you’ll also find some horn cups and more reindeer and sami dress pictures.

Finally, I’ve been to level 03 at department store PUB here in Stockholm! Everything I’ve heard about it has sounded so interesting and don’t ask me why I haven’t popped in before. I went to see an exhibition of work by one of Turkey’s most notable artists, Ilhan Koman at Operatingplace (what a good name!). Now I know more about the sculpture I’ve passed so many times in Ekerö Centrum every summer holiday! Some of his work reminded me of the ceramic sculptures by Eva Hild.

Have a nice weekend!

dancing all night

The chandelier that hung above the dance floor.

What a fantastic wedding I’ve been to this weekend! It was so generous - not least in a loving atmosphere. We danced all night and most of my pictures came out too dark. Here’s the few alright ones.

Dancing queen.

After returning from the weekend, I promptly came down with a cold and have done some surfing:

winter wedding

The fairy tale church in Jokkmokk.

We’re off to a winter wedding at Södertuna slott, not far from Stockholm. It’s probably the most romantic thing I’ve ever done on Valentine’s day! We’re bringing tulip leaves to throw on the happy couple as rice is strictly forbidden. Should have been rose petals though, shouldn’t it?

Here’s from one of the exhibitions we saw in Jokkmokk, interior objects and jewellery by Erica Huuva called Árbi (legacy).

I’ve felt uncharacteristically tired this past week and then Nicole pointed out that I worked the past two weekends without having any days off so perhaps it wasn’t all that strange? On Monday we will have a day of rest, I look forward to that. Here’s a peaceful picture to contemplate.

Have a lovely weekend and happy Valentine’s day.

Sound of cold

His shoes bigger here.

By the end of the week the temperature went down to -20 degrees C and we got cold feet. We stayed warm by mixing the outdoor market with the plentiful indoor exhibitions and market stalls. There were also lots of lovely woolly socks around and in the evening we warmed our frozen selves up in the sauna.

I had almost forgotten the crispy sound of snow under your feet after many years of green winters in Stockholm. I enjoyed the sound!

A little detour from Jokkmokk to Stockholm: I’m blogging my Stockholm tips at truant this week - a little selection every day!

back from Jokkmokk

Bigger.

It is something special about the wintermarket in Jokkmokk. It’s snowy and cold and filled with fantastic crafts as well as the usual market blaha. But what makes it special - I think - is that it engages a whole village and the area around it, everyone is envolved! It makes for a fantastic atmosphere.

Welcome to Murjek.

The market attracts visitors from far and near, at our hostel in Murjek (a village of 200 inhabitants) there were americans, germans and swedes enjoying breakfast together in the dining room.

A dream catcher from the archeological museum in Vuollerim.

Here’s a few pictures. I’ll be back with more but have some sorting out to do first - so much to show and tell!

I could place myself permanently in front of it

Bigger.

A wood burning stove is the latest addition to manos, it moved in just a couple of days ago and I’m in love. I’m out chopping wood for it, I listen to it burning away, I feed it and admire it. I could place myself permanently in front of it and be quite content. (Until my stomach starts rumbling.)

This week though, I’ll have to tear myself away as I’m visiting Jokkmokks market. Although I’m just heading further north into my own country, it feels as if I’m off to a far away exotic land.

I’ll be back on Saturday to open up manos for the season and light the fire again.

A friend just told me that John Martyn has died. His album No Little Boy brings back fond memories of London to me, with songs like Sweet Little Mystery and Solid Air. And “May You Never” of course and Head and Heart… I can go on and on, so much tenderness in his songs.
