Emperor’s chair

I’ve had a good day. Someone showed that they really believed in my competence and ideas today and I felt jubilant on my bikeride home! Another thing that happened was that my friend was in tears because of bad communication at work, why are we sometimes so lousy at talking to each other?

I like this chair from Studio Ditte, and look at their inspiring photographs from China. Found them through swissmiss.

Round up: oven gloves and massive moose

Angry chicken have had some unmissable links this past week. The little purse (I agree with Amy, this is my favourite as well) and bag comes from hum. And from kawana comes these cute oven gloves.

Designspotter linked to feindinge who’se vase looks stunning.

Crayon had a link to Miun, who’s fall/winter collection included this happy green dress with arm warmers.

I also enjoyed the massive moose at Groupies!

Rosendals Trädgård, Stockholm

A couple of years ago, I used to sell my work in the shop at Rosendals Trädgård and now we’re giving it another go! I’m hoping to get over there on Wednesday to deliver, amongst other things, a couple of small mobiles (not this particular one though, it’s off to the U.S tomorrow!).

Rosendals Trädgård is a breathing space in Stockholm, one of the must-visit places. As well as being a very beautiful garden with an inspiring program , the greenhouses also hosts a cafe, a bakery and a nursery.

Rosendals has redesigned their website and now it really captures the feel of the place.

Collaborative crafters

Nice to see entrepreneurial crafters running a collaborative blog! But how do I find out who made these shoes for instance?

Explorations in time and colour

I found this cute bag from littleoddforest by using the shop by colour tool at Etsy. Another cool feature is the time machine - go explore!

Knitted stuff to keep me warm

It really is autumn now. When I bike to the workshop I need a scarf around the head and something to warm my hands. But that’s ok, I have these lovely knitted gloves from Pernilla Svenre to dress up in.

I recently read an article about Pernilla Svenre and I was so impressed. She runs a creative bussines and seems to have had found a balance between creativity and economy. This is the kind of article that I like to read - about someone who’s doing what I’m doing, trying to grow a small creative business.

The article about Pernilla Svenre was one of the few interesting articles in the KIF magazine. KIF is a Swedish organization for artists and designers. I find their members magazine perfectly booring, most of it deals with grants and funds out of which artists can apply for money.

I’d like to read articles dealing with the entrepreneurial side of being an artist or designer. I’d love to hear others opinions and experiences on things that I’m sure we have in common: which freight companies to use; how to deal with order confirmations that are not kept; which trade shows to do etc. And it wouldn’t hurt if the layout of the magazine was a teeny bit inspiring.

So please KIF, if you want to keep me as a member, more of those Pernilla Svenre kind of articles!

“We believe in friendship and tasty hot water”

I bought this beautifully made box filled with TAZO Tea in a sale at Bluebird on Kings Road. It’s been in use ever since. I love their tea but I haven’t managed to find an outlet in Sweden, which is why the TAZO bags are mixed up with other not so graphically appealing bags (but still great tasting tea of course, not only the outside matters…).

Another ever-so-lovely looking tea brand is Samova, oh boy do they have a well thought through concept! Above quote is from their site.

I haven’t come across such beautiful packaging for coffee yet although Fortnum and Mason have some pretty ones.

Hearwear

It’s something about hearing, sound, noice, music and such ear-related stuff that catches my attention. Here’s a presentation of the future of hearing by Designboom.

I’m not sure my grandfather, who needed hearing aid, could’ve managed with the universal hear-ring by Pearson Lloyd, but perhaps Industrial Facilitie’s glasses with inbuilt surround sound would’ve suited an old man with large hands?

London design festival

Erica Wakerly is exhibiting at Designersblock in London. I like the collage style of her cushions and think her illustrations are fab.

Another favourite of mine who will also be seen during the London design extravaganza is Donna Wilson, who’s other worldly creatures can be seen at Upstairs In The Woodlands, presented by Thorsten Van Elten.

Odd Molly

How strangely cut off one feels when one has server problems!! Am hoping it’ll not happen again. It’s a beautiful autumn friday in Stockholm and I’m going out for a drink in a bar where they have a fire place. How cosy! Here’s a jacket from Odd Molly that I’d wear tonight if I owned one.

UPDATE: All of you who live in Exeter, UK can get your Odd Molly clothing from Garnish and Winkle in Gandy street. Tracey came to the rescue - thank you! If anyone has tips of other places around the world where Odd Molly can be purchased - please feel free to leave them in the comments.

Too glam for words

Is it the colour? Or the texture? The shape? I don’t know, I just like it. Very much.
It’s a Mondet bag, found it in the Satin Boutique on a search for more info on Tsumori Chisato, who’s beautiful dress I saw at candlemomo.

Eco cool

Cia Wedin told me about Johanna Hofring and you absolutely have to have a look at her “top page” (as well as the other pages of course, but the first page has something special). Johanna runs two shops: Ekovaruhuset in Stockholms Old Town and The Art Fiend Foundation in New York. The crocheted red boots are from an exhibition in 2003.

P.O.P

Polarn o Pyret is for me great quality, colourful stripy clothes in 100% cotton. My childhood was filled with P.O.P clothes and I still enjoy my redstriped bed t-shirt (they last for ever). swedesres mentioned that P.O.P have launched a new website and I couldn’t resist the pregnant stripy belly picture!

Velvet da Vinci

Velvet da Vinci gallery in San Fransisco is showing Swedish Jewellery until 16th October, an exhibition previously shown at Flow gallery in London. Here is a ring by Aud Charlotte Ho Sook Sinding (above) and a necklace by Agnieszka Knap (below).

Do take your time to browse all the swell jewellery on display, for instance from the “100 Brooches” and the “Tiaras Will Be Worn” exhibitions and all the artists - I loved this ring by Florian Ladstaetter.

Quirk collection

This lovely coat is by Kristin Caskey, who’s work is available from Quirk gallery. They’ve got a wonderful collection of work, I also fell for this brooch by Christina Goodman.

Here I go again

I’ve mentioned them before and here I go again. I love their style! Lo Lo + Gretch Dahling.

Shortcuts

This past week has been filled to the limit and not much time left for checking up on favourite blogs, so I was pleased to get a shortcut via Maria’s list of posts she’s enjoyed.

Other posts I wouldn’t have wanted to miss lately are:
Hobby Princess’ entries on Local Brands, Global Concerns and Finish Street Fashion on HEL LOOKS,
Camilla’s link to Rebecca Gimenez’ book covers,
Modernista, truly enjoy her blog (in swedish).

Bamboo shuffle

Like the colours, like the shape and that it’s eco friendly. Designed by Temas, via Trehugger.

Ceramics reinvented

I like the philosophy of living with and caring for objects and clothes rather than just throwing them away and buying something new. It’s a reclaim revival in the ceramics world (and so many other worlds as well) at the moment. I’ve been rescuing a whole lot of odd crockery that I’m reinventing with new patterns. My friend Sabine Lavigne recently launched a website together with Kristine Meyer and they’re offering a service where you can leave your old ceramics with them and get it shaped up and modernised with added patterns (above).

Clio, which by the way is another of my outlets (and as such will get a posting of their own!) sell a range of improved crockery by dutch designer Esther Derkx.

Clouds heavy with rain

A couple of weeks ago, I drove down to the seminar garden at Järna, south of Stockholm. The garden is full of secluded places, filled with calm and beauty.

Two people were sitting in the house with the thatched roof watching the view over the bay. The reason I went to Ytterjärna was that gardener Tobias Fredriksson want to incorporate applied arts into the garden.

I found some wonderful spots where my hangings can tinkle away in the wind, hopefully drawing the eye to more hidden treasures.
