Nu har jag varit inne och tittat igenom min statistik igen och vad man upptäcker grejer! Jonas på Lemonad har tipsat Smålandsposten om bloglänkar - så tack vare honom har nu jag, Yukio, Josh Rubin och Stationsvakt hamnat på samma lista som David Duchovny från Arkiv X! Inte dåligt.

I had a lovely day on saturday. It was the applied arts day in Sweden, organized by KHVC, and lots of artists had their workshops open, as I did mine. Visitors to my workshop could work with screenprinted decals to make their own mug pattern and it was great fun seeing all sorts of people engaging with this. The results were lovely! Here are some pictures from the event.

I helgen öppnar STREET för året. STREET marknad är en fantastisk mix av grejer, mode, mat, musik och människor. Nytt för i år är den permanenta inomhusmarknaden med café och restaurang. Det är verkligen ett tipptopp evenemang som är roligt att både besöka och att medverka vid. STREET brer ut sig längs promenadstråket mellan Liljeholmsbadet fram till Liljeholmsbron.

Wee Wonderfuls always have such great finds, the latest being a New Yorker Rion Nakaya’s photoblog. Atmospheric and brilliant photos from NY: Maribelle chocolates which was promptly added to my list of to do’s in NY.

I’ll be showing with Designboom at The International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York! The ICFF is the largest contemporary furniture show in the US for which Designboom has brought together 45 designers to sell limited series design-originals and show prototypes of their latest works.

The idea is to give the ICFF visitors the opportunity to purchase intelligent, useful and quirky items priced from a range of USD 10 to USD 100 - from metal to ceramics, glass to fabrics, to recycled materials. The designers will be personally presenting their wares - so a great opportunity to make our aquaintance and see samples and portfolios! I’m bringing butterfly and rose ‘mint’ cups, large bowls, tealight holders and my porcelain hangings.

design*sponge has lately been posting lots of tips on exhibitors not to be missed at this years ICFF. Here’s Core 77’s report from last years ICFF and surrounding design events.

Den som har vägarna förbi Gotland i pingsthelgen kan besöka öppna ateljeer. Om jag nu inte skulle vara i NY (jippie!) skulle jag leta mig fram till t. ex. Simon Häggblom, Mårten Medbo, Gösta Wallmark och Skulpturfabriken.

Maj Eskilssons fina broderade tetraförpackning i keramik kommer att finnas med på vandringsutställningen 100 tankar om konsthantverk med start på Parapeten i Helsingborg den 17 juni. Utställningen ska handla om “…smak och tradition, skönhet och äckel, funktion och prydnad, manligt och kvinnligt.” 100 tankar om konsthantverk är en gemensam satsning av Riksutställningar, KHVC och KIF (Sveriges konsthantverkare och industriformgivare).

I’m going to New York for ten days in May! Bliss. It’s almost ten years since my last visit so I’ve got some catching up to do. I’m taking part in The International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) but that’s just for four days and I plan to do lots of walking the streets of New York too. My boyfriend says we must take the tube to Coney Island and see Manhattan from the Brooklyn Promenade so will do that! Shall visit the Guggenheim, The Museum of Modern Art and perhaps The Noguchi Museum. Will be window shopping at Clearly First, Clio, The Future Perfect, Matter, Moss and browsing The Market NYC. Will also buy myself some lovely clothes and shoes and jewellery… I read about The Red Cat in Dagens Nyheter today and that shall go on my list of places to eat.

Any more tips on other musts to cram in during my ten days will be greatly appreciated!

Rachel Kelly (who’s interactive wallpapers make me long for a lovely big house of my own to try them out in) latest wallpaper is called New Shoes and was commissioned by the sponsors of Sex and the City. Rachel’s illustrations of designer high-heeled shoes overlay a background pattern of flower silhouettes and polka dots. The design comes in four colourways: Carrie (pink), Charlotte (ivory), Miranda (magenta) and Samantha (white gold). The interactive part comes in form of a range of stickers and transfer sets to be applied on over the New Shoes pattern.

I’m very fond of Jane Muir’s little ceramic people, especially the ones with birds on their heads. I’ve got a ceramic man of my own who currently lives in the shade of a sunflowerplant in my window. He was accidently beheaded by a hot dog last spring but a bit of superglue cured him and now it almost makes him more special.

Nu när det blåser snålt kring radions P2 vill jag slå ett slag för två program som är givna i min radiovecka. Kalejdoskop och Delta är bägge blandade musikprogram som överraskar och får mig att lyssna på sånt som jag kanske inte hade hört annars. Senaste programmet kan höras på weben och spellistor ligger ute i 60 dagar.

I was introduced to Marcello Chiarenza’s work by my friend Gabriella. He’s got harmony in these fragile structures and I love the light.

Salvia is another one of those Japanese sites that I can’t get enough of. Beautiful, inspiring. Don’t forget to look at the images of shop interiors and windows. Found via Wee Wonderfuls.

This site has kept me away from my tax return for hours now and I don’t even read Japanese. The shop is addictive, I like everything and it looks as if a lot of people do as every other item is sold out.

Bruno Munari has done some very inspiring design work. Here are a two of his illustrations for childrens books that I find wonderful. The pictures comes from the Utrecht online bookstore, a lovely site to browse.

Handarbetets Vänner ordnar tillsammans med Norges ambassad en föreläsningsserie och nästa tillfälle tror jag blir riktigt bra: föreläsare är Marit Eken Kalager, dräktkonstnär som formstickar unika plagg av ull och Ulrika Mårtensson, arkitekt och textilkonstnär som bla arbetar med ljudabsorberande verk för offentlig miljö. Onsdagen den 27 april kl 17.00 Novilla, th om Skansens huvudentré, Stockholm. Föreläsningen är kostnadsfri, men eftersom antalet platser är begränsade vill de ha föranmälan till: galleri@hv-atelje.com

Samma dag mellan 12-16 är det vernissage på HV Galleri, Djurgårdsslätten 82: Marit Eken Kalager, Trine Mauritz Eriksen och Hege Marie Sørurn.

Stilleben is a beautiful ceramics shop in Copenhagen and I find the way they create patterns of things (see photos on their website) really inspiring.

Nästa lördag är det Konsthantverkets dag, som arrangeras av Konsthantverkscentrum och förverkligas av Sveriges konsthantverkare. Jag kommer att ha öppet i min verkstad mellan 11-16. Under dagen kan alla som vill (och får plats!) klippa och kreera mönster på muggar. Ta med dig din egen mugg (den måste vara glaserad!) eller köp en hos mig i verkstaden, jag kommer att ha ett lager av enkla vita muggar tillhanda. Läs mer på min websida!

I love the tactile ceramics/flock/wallpaper softboxes and vases in the Rush of Plush series by Hanna Tonek Bonnett. Hanna is a great person with a very special approach to ceramics. Right now she’s in Dubai with the British European Design Group, taking part in the Ambiente trade fair. Hanna’s ceramics is available at Frank Form in Stockholm (which by the way is a lovely shop!) and from June, she’ll be spending her summer in the new ceramics workshop at Gränsö!

Selvedge is a magazine for anyone addicted to textiles. I haven’t found it for sale anywhere in Sweden yet, but it can be subscribed to as paper or online magazine.

Porcelain is a beautiful material, one of the purest clays and it’s translucent. Here’s Facet by David Wiseman, the lit one has got a tealight inside.

Thanks for the tips leading me to more info on Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen! The dress I mentioned earlier is from the Allegria of Fashion exhibition. This is currently on show at the Lahti Historical Museum. A movie of the exhibition can be viewed on her website, it takes about 4 minutes. I understood from the adjoining text on the website that the film was going to be about her workingprocess - which would have also been really interesting - but it “only” shows the dresses.

I was interested to read the story of Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen’s design. Her dresses are very sculptural with beautiful lines and wonderful materials in them. My no 1 is still the red one, but these two are very close.

Sounds from mobile phones ringing or alarm clocks make me jump and I find them quite intrusive. I’ve often wish I was the kind of designer that enjoy solving that type of problems. Alas, I am not, but through Josh Rubin’s blog, I found someone who seems to be just that. Gauri Nanda works in design and engineering and is currently linked to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab. She’s got all sorts of smart products in various stages of completion. I fell for Clocky, the almost cuddly alarmclock that rolls of the bedside table and hides so that you have to get out of bed to find it and liked the idea of the toilet paper holder that warns you as you’re about to sit down if the roll is empty, also liked the Mustard clutch.

Vogue is featuring Pia Tonna today. I especially love the Soprano bag they’ve chosen an image of but also really like the Pouch (in pink I think).

Idag på förmiddagen strosade jag runt trädgårdsmässan i Älvsjö. I hall C hade Peter Ødegaard valt ut vackra bilder, bland annat Boltanski’s serie Monuments - Les Enfants de Dijon från 1985. Dessa var del av en hel idéträdgård - tankarna bakom är visualiserade här. Här är mer fint:

Saw at Designboom weblog that Barber Osgerby wins Blueprint Furniture Designer of the Year award. Here’s an interview with them from the Designmuseum in London website. Here are a few of their designs that I really like: the bench design for St Thomas’s Cathedral in Portsmouth, ipsei bottle design for Coca Cola and the green Shell table for Cappellini. Check out their website for really nice pictures.

Nu önskar jag bara att jag visste vart dom färgglada plasthandskarna, som Sanna Hellberg skrev om i lördagens DN Bostad, kom ifrån så att jag kan vara lite fin när jag gräver i trädgården!

Vad glad jag blir! Svartsjö Slott har fått hyresgäster! Bland andra Lars Wallin och det bådar väl gott om jag får döma av hans fantastiska kreationer? Slottet har stått tomt många år men blev för ett par år sedan vackert renoverat med fantastiska handmålade tapeter i de ljusa rokokorummen. Det ligger helt underbart vid vattnet omgivet av en stor 1700-talspark. Läs mer om slottet på Statens Fastighetsverks websida. Från den information som ges på websida och pressrelease så ska verksamheten innehålla både sommarkonserter, utställningar, restaurang, konferens- och festverksamhet. Ovanstående foton från Statens Fastighetsverk och en artikel om Lars Wallin i Svd. Bilderna nedan tog jag för två år sedan då renoveringen var klar och allmänheten fick komma och titta. Det kom enormt mycket folk och de utlovade gratis kanelbullarna tog slut i ett nafs.

9-30 april håller Formbaren till i huvudentrén på Kulturhuset i Stockholm. Elever från Nyckelviksskolan kommer att lösa dina eller andras formproblem - beställningar görs via Kulturhusets website och alla får följa problem-lösnings-processen. På söndagarna 10, 17 och 24 april kl 12–16 kommer det i Formbaren hållas workshops där allmänheten får pröva hantverk tillsammans med Nyckelviksskolans blivande hantverkspedagoger. En hel rad formgivare/designer, konsthantverkare eller konstnärer kommer även att i baren berätta om sitt yrke, utbildning mm. Hela programmet på Kulturhusets web.
